The Archive is delighted that photographs by Norman Parkinson are included in 'Russia in Vogue'. This unique exhibition is dedicated to Vogue Russia's 15th Anniversary and will be open at the Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow (MAMM) from the 2nd December 2013 to the 26th January 2014.
Six Norman Parkinson images from his 1975 shoot for British Vogue will be on display alongside work by peers and contemporary photographers including Edward Steichen, Horst P. Horst, Arthor Elgort, Cecil Beaton, David Bailey, Peter Lindbergh, Mario Testino and Patrick Demarchelier.
Norman Parkinson travelled to Russia fro British Vogue in 1975 with one of his favourite models, Jerry Hall, and with longstanding collaborator, Grace Coddington. The team was accompanied by Parkinson's wife, Wenda, a former model herself who was by then writing features for Vogue. Behind the scenes shots from the trip can be seen in the slideshow above. The shoot was featured in the January 1976 issue of British Vogue.
This unique exhibition includes 87 works by 36 international photographers and celebrates Russian influence on the style of Vogue magazine, and on the history of fashion, photography and graphic design in general. The show includes iconic fashion features that utilise Russia's spectacular landscapes and architecture. It also demonstrates the impact Russian designers, supermodels and culture has had on the international fashion scene.
